During the previous transfer window, a number of Blues players, including, among others, Ilkay Gundogan, Cole Palmer, and Riyad Mahrez, left the Etihad Stadium. However, with the upcoming January transfer window rapidly approaching, City may soon be parting ways with another player. The Athletic recently reported that the Colorado Rapids are in advanced negotiations to sign Steffen, who was injured and unable to secure a loan agreement with the Manchester club last summer.

The report also states that although negotiations are continuing for the shot-stopper, the agreement is not yet finalized.

Additional Man City Tales

Columbus Crew sold the goalkeeper to City in December 2018 for approximately £7 million.

Since his official signing with the club in the summer of 2019, the 28-year-old has appeared in 21 games for the Blues in all competitions, accumulating 16 goals conceded while maintaining eight clean sheets.

The American faced 153 shots on target in 42 Championship appearances during the previous season, of which 104 were saved for a save percentage of 68%.

During his loan stint with Middlesbrough for the previous season, Steffen maintained ten clean sheets but allowed 56 goals in forty-five matches across all competitions.Given that City’s senior squad currently consists of Ederson, Stefan Ortega Moreno, and Scott Carson, it is understandable why the club appears to be considering the possibility of releasing Steffen.

It would be preferable if, should this transaction materialize, the United States international could once again get regular playing time and demonstrate his abilities to the world, as opposed to wasting his time at City.
