Manchester City is about to make their first big deal of the summer. Julian Alvarez is about to sign with Atletico Madrid.
There has been talk about the Argentine international for weeks now, since he got tired of his part in the team.
Alvarez had a hard time getting minutes in the second half of last season. He was very popular at the beginning of the season, but not as much after Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland came back from injuries.
A lot of teams, including Arsenal, which is competing with City for the Premier League title, want to sign Alvarez.
The race was close, but Atletico won. A deal will be made public very soon. It will cost £82 million to move the player.
The story has moved along pretty quickly. It will be interesting to see what City does next. Will the team get someone else? Or look inside?
There are some Manchester City fans who think there is one person who should replace Alvarez.
Oscar Bobb is seen by some Manchester City fans as the best player to replace Julian Alvarez.
City did a great job by getting £82 million for Alvarez, since they only paid £14 million to sign him.
But since joining City, Alvarez has done pretty well. In 103 games for the club, he has scored 36 goals and set up 18 others.
In the last third, Alvarez could definitely make things happen.
But some fans think Oscar Bobb might be the best person to replace Alvarez. It will be very interesting to see what City does.
Bobb was the best player on City’s tour of the US. He is an attacking player who can play anywhere in the front line, even up top.
It would be great if Bobb had a bigger part for City this year.
During the preseason, it was easy to see how talented he is. This could be his chance.
Bobb is versatile enough to play in the middle, and Pep has talked about how good he is in these open areas before.
He has been a scorer and a false nine in the past. Maybe Pep won’t see him as a straight replacement for Alvarez. In that case, he might use Phil Foden or Kevin De Bruyne as a false nine if Haaland isn’t available, and Bobb will play on the right.
