Manchester City failed to find a replacement for Julian Alvarez before the summer transfer window closed, but Galatasaray were able to get Victor Osimhen.

Victor Osimhen’s shocking move to Galatasaray has been talked about by Ilkay Gundogan. The 25-year-old striker was strongly linked with moves to the Premier League and the Saudi Pro League for most of the summer. However, a deal fell through when Chelsea and Al-Ahli couldn’t agree on personal terms.

Osimhen joined the current Turkish top-flight winners on loan for the season because he was desperate to find a new club before the summer window closed. It is said that Galatasaray promised to pay the Nigerian player’s huge salary, which is about €210,000 (£176,000) a week, in full in exchange for not having to pay a loan fee.

Early Tuesday morning, Osimhen arrived in Istanbul after getting his medical. His fans were there to greet him with open arms. Gundogan saw that Fabrizio Romano posted about the deal on Instagram and was interested.

Under the reporter’s post, the Manchester City player said something about Osimhen’s move. He said: “Wow… Crazy [Shocked face emoji, Nigeria flag emoji, lion emoji, yellow and red circle emoji].”

The Metro reported that the Turkish news outlet A Spor said Osimhen negotiated a break clause into his deal with Galatasaray. This clause lets him end the loan in January if one of 10 unnamed teams makes an offer to Napoli. Kagan Dursun, a Turkish writer, says that Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Bayern Munich are some of the teams that are on his short list.

Galatasaray got Osimhen, but City chose not to replace Julian Alvarez right away. The 24-year-old forward joined Atletico Madrid earlier this summer to get more chances to play with the first team after Erling Haaland got more playing time.

When Pep Guardiola talked to press before the international break, he admitted that City took a risk by not replacing Alvarez. “I’m happy with the squad,” the Spanish player said.

“We didn’t think Julian would leave, but he had talked to other clubs and his agent a long time ago, so it was possible. In the end, it did happen.” We saw what we had.

They said, “If we have a lot of injuries, it will be a problem. But Oscar Bobb will be back from injury in a few months, Phil Foden is in that position, James McAtee can play there, Gundogan can play there, Bernardo Silva can play there…”

It’s clear that these players are not the same as Erling. If you don’t play for a long time, it might be a mistake, but I don’t like it when you do. When everyone on the team has a chance to play, the team always does better.

“I know the group and how serious and professional they are. They work hard at every game.” We’re pretty sure that waiting is best.
