An update has emerged prior to the Feyenoord match, prompting Man City fans to believe that the club must now sell a player valued at £50 million.

Manchester City are accustomed to the departure of players during the transfer windows.

In recent years, City have witnessed numerous players depart the Etihad Stadium, either on permanent contracts for transfer fees, temporary loan agreements, or as free agents.

Pep Guardiola’s team has experienced a varied start to the 2024/25 season after the departure of Julian Alvarez, Joao Cancelo, Sergio Gomez, and Liam Delap on permanent contracts during the previous summer transfer window.

In particular, the Blues have now lost their five previous matches across all competitions, despite the fact that they managed to avoid defeat until late October.

Some supporters have taken to X to share their thoughts on one specific figure in the City squad after a fresh update emerged regarding them, as the Citizens prepare for a Champions League match against Feyenoord at the Etihad Stadium.

Fans of Manchester City respond to the latest information regarding John Stones.

This group of City supporters appears to be of the opinion that the defender’s tenure at the club should be terminated in the near future, following a report from

The Mirror that revealed that John Stones missed Monday’s training session in preparation for City’s Champions League match against Feyenoord. This user also noted Stones’ injury and fitness issues, stating,

“I love John, he’s a great player for sure, but with all his injuries and age, and also seemingly always playing for the national team when he is not fully fit, I think it’s sadly maybe time to say goodbye during contract extension talks.”

The reliability of the Englishman was also called into doubt, as this X user shared the following verdict:

“It is time to bid you farewell…” Yes, he has been impressive; however, it is unnecessary to have a defender who is unable to remain healthy for two consecutive games.

The city is required to make a decision regarding the stones. A reported fee of £50 million was paid by City to acquire Stones from Everton during the summer transfer window of 2016.

The Englishman has since made a total of 268 appearances, earning numerous trophies. At present, the 30-year-old’s contract with City is scheduled to expire in the summer of 2026.

The defender participated in 28 matches across all competitions last season, starting in 22 of them. This is the result of Stones’ need to address a variety of fitness and injury-related concerns.

This season, the England international has started seven of the 11 matches in which he has appeared, once again contending with injury issues.

Stones’ injury issues and the unreliability they provide are particularly aggravating, as Guardiola stated in October that he is “important” to City.

In the event that the defender’s injury issues persist and he continues to miss games, the club may need to determine whether it would be more advantageous to replace him with a less injury-prone individual.
