Manchester City vs Luton Town (5-1) – Goal Highlights as match ended with victory on Man City side Kovačić, Erling Haaland was incredibly good
Pep Guardiola used a different group of players against Luton on Saturday, who was having a bad season in the Premier League. This was followed by Manchester City going back to the top of the league for the first time in five months.
Nathan Ake and Kyle Walker’s return to the team gave Pep Guardiola hope. They were put on the bench against Luton, and Phil Foden was healthy enough to be on the replacements’ list. Kevin De Bruyne was made to start again, and Rodri was given time off. But Stones didn’t play at all because he “wasn’t fully fit.”
In the first minute, City got off to the best possible start when Erling Haaland’s amazing shot went in off of Daiki Hashioka’s face. The game slowed down for an hour until Mateo Kovacic’s beautiful shot made it 2-0 and Haaland’s penalty gave his team a big lead.
The visitors had something to cheer about when Ross Barkley scored a consolation goal, but Jeremy Doku’s great solo effort and Josko Gvardiol’s goal in injury time sealed a win that would boost morale before Real Madrid’s visit on Wednesday.
86′: Doku scores a fourth.
Jeremy Doku gets the ball about 40 yards away, close to the goal line. Brings the step-overs to jink inside of Onyedimna and then Woodrow in the area, then bends an effort into the upper corner.
He earned that; all afternoon he was a constant danger, and now he has the goal to show for it.
At 90+3′, Gvardiol scores!
Cut and paste from Tuesday.
This is the same spot where Josko Gvardiol scored against Real Madrid. He takes a touch and tries for the near top corner. And really likes it.
It looks like City will win the league. They have a good goal difference of four goals to their name.
At 63′, Kovacic scores!
The Etihad woke up all of a sudden. A loud voice says “We’re coming after you” and then “Champions again, ole.” It’s not often that chants come from the South. You can stand all the way around the Etihad, but it’s clear that the fans want their team to get a boost.
After a smart pass from Haaland, Julian Alvarez moves to make room, but his shot misses the mark. It’s not even close to clear that he should start against Madrid on Wednesday.
The most recent players to warm up are Nathan Ake, Oscar Bobb, and Sergio Gomez. This shows that Guardiola is at least satisfied with City’s play.
This will also make him happy. From a corner kick, Julian Alvarez plays a one-two with Mateo Kovacic on the edge of the box. Kovacic then half-volleys a beautiful shot into the roof of the net. Very good handling.
1’—City takes the lead right away!
The players take a knee before the game starts, and then it starts.
For now, Julian Alvarez is on the right, and City is ahead in the first minute!
Erling Haaland is no longer a threat, but he still shoots straight at Kaminski. The ball bounces back to Jeremy Doku, who takes a shot that deflects into Haaland’s path.
The shooter does a crazy bicycle kick that goes just wide of the goal, but it hits Daiki Hashioka in the face and goes into the back of the net. Haaland won’t care that it’s an own goal.
City leader.
13′ – City has full control
You have to wait almost the whole season for a Josko Gvardiol goal, and then two of them come right after each other. He is in the same spot as at the Bernabeu when Gvardiol tries Kaminski with his right foot.
Kevin De Bruyne gets the corner kick and is hit to the penalty spot while other players crowd around the goal. De Bruyne has a hard chance on the half-volley, but he can’t keep it down.
Jeremy Doku got off to a good start, and when he gets past his defender, the cutback to Matheus Nunes is good. However, the finish is a little rough, and Kaminski gets it on the second try.
Since the goal, City has had the ball exactly where they want it: in the Luton half. They are now just waiting for the next chance to attack. The home fans cheer for their team even though the game is moving much more slowly, but that’s how the Blues beat teams at the Etihad. Everything is going as planned with this game.
