The Champions League tie at Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday night will be played without important players for Manchester City, as Kevin De Bruyne has made a decision and a change has been confirmed. The injury list already includes long-term absentees Rodri and Oscar Bobb, as well as Jack Grealish, in

addition to defensive duo John Stones and Ruben Dias, who have not travelled. Nathan Ake, Kyle Walker, and Manuel Akanji began to overcome issues, while Jeremy Doku, Savinho, and Kevin De Bruyne all made the substitute at Bournemouth last time out as they continue to recover from their own issues. Pep Guardiola will be anticipating a positive outcome and a clean slate in Portugal, as his team will be travelling to Brighton on Saturday prior to the international break. He would like to rotate from the Bournemouth loss on Saturday; however, the options available are limited by match fitness.

Guardiola has verified that Stefan Ortega will be given a chance to play in goal, while Rico Lewis is a likely candidate to return to the right back position, as Walker is still struggling to find his rhythm and form. Josko Gvardiol will continue to play on the left, while Akanji and Ake are the sole senior centre back options. Mateo Kovacic is expected to remain

in the centre of the midfield, and Ilkay Gundogan may restart alongside him. Mathues Nunes has been in exceptional form in recent weeks and is expected to retain his position on the left, while Bernardo Silva is a critical member of this City team. Savinho and Jeremy Doku are expected to provide options off the bench as they continue to develop their fitness, while Phil Foden and Erling Haaland are expected to complete the XI. De Bruyne’s recent

injury issues suggest that he will be gradually introduced back into the game, as it was never anticipated that he would make an appearance at Bournemouth. City XI predicted: Ortega, Lewis, Akanji, Ake, Gvardiol; Kovacic, Gundogan, Bernardo, Foden, Nunes, Haaland…
