Manchester United 31-year-old player Harry Maguire pass out an intriguing message after Manchester United FA Cup semi-finals escape win vs Coventry
After a crazy win over Coventry City at Wembley, Man United moved on to the FA Cup final.
It was Harry Maguire’s fault and the fault of his teammates that Manchester United barely made it to the FA Cup final at Wembley on Sunday afternoon after a big scare.
United lost 3-0 in regular time and had to go to penalties to beat Coventry City 4–2. They had already lost three times after the 70th minute. With goals from Maguire, Scott McTominay, and Bruno Fernandes, the Reds were well on their way to the final.
But Ellis Simms started the Sky Blues’ comeback by making it 1-3. Eight minutes later, Callum O’Hare’s blocked shot set up a thrilling finish. A penalty kick by Haji Wright in the fifth minute of extra time sealed an amazing comeback for Coventry.
Victor Torp, who Coventry signed in January, thought he had won it late in extra time, but United was saved by VAR and won on penalties. Because of this, Maguire said there was a bit of a sad mood in the camp after the game.
Maguire told MUTV, “Right now we don’t feel great.” Maybe we’ll wake up tomorrow and find that we’re in yet another cup final; that would make three in two years.
“The club wants us to win these big trophies and be in these big finals, and we’re looking forward to it.” It was a really, really, really weird game to play.
“We were in charge of the game, and all of a sudden it was 3-2.” It was too easy for us to let them back in.
Maguire also said this about United’s collapse in the last 30 minutes: “It was good for the first 60 minutes, we played well.” The last 30 minutes were not even close to good enough for this team.
“Playing for this club brings huge responsibility and we have got to look at ourselves, myself included, because the last 30 minutes, we didn’t show anywhere near enough responsibility on that pitch and that was extremely disappointing.”
