Man United beat Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0 on the last day of the Premier League season. Diogo Dalot and Rasmus Hojlund both scored goals.
Right back Diogo Dalot praised Rasmus Hojlund’s mental toughness after the Swedish forward came off the bench to score Manchester United’s second goal in their 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday.
With only two minutes left in regular time at the Amex Stadium, the Dane, who joined United from Atalanta last summer, made it 2-0. It was his second goal in as many games; the first was against Newcastle United last week.
Hojlund came on as a second-half replacement by United manager Erik ten Hag, just like he did against Newcastle. He gave United a fresh look up top. He scored a great goal with help from fellow replacement Christian Eriksen.
Ten Hag may have put Hojlund on the bench for the second straight game to try to cut down on his workload before the FA Cup final against Manchester City at Wembley on Saturday. After getting off the bench to score in both of his last two games, he is now in great shape to start the main event.
And the way he thinks has impressed Dalot. He told MUTV, “I told him right away after the goal that this is the way we want people to think.” You need to be ready whether you start the game or sit on the bench. New.
“When you come on, you have to give it your all, whether it’s for five minutes, one minute, fifteen minutes, or twenty minutes. He has shown that he gives the team energy, especially in these last two games when he has come on.” He’s new, strong, and winning duels.
“This is the Rasmus we’ll want to see all season and I am very pleased with him.”
The Portuguese right back went on to say this about the win: “I think it was a progressive performance.” We had a great start, but then we lost some balls in the middle and fell apart, especially with the ball.
“First half, when we didn’t have the ball, it was a little hard to defend the pockets and open spaces in the middle.” They did a lot of one-twos, which made some openings. We were lucky not to have given up a goal by halftime, so we knew we needed to make a change. The second half was much better for us.
