Manchester United has received a significant indication regarding the potential acquisition of the club in conjunction with the most recent announcement from INEOS.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the CEO of INEOS, has faced significant criticism for his cost-cutting initiatives subsequent to his minority acquisition in December 2023. Those reductions persist following the disclosure yesterday that the 13-time Premier League champions intend to eliminate an additional 150-200 positions prior to the conclusion of the season.
The Red Devils have already reduced their workforce, eliminated company credit cards, and implemented restrictions on working from home. They are now considering the elimination of the staff canteen, which is expected to result in an additional £1 million in annual savings for the club.
However, what are the implications of this in the future? The Glazers’ disaster has been cleaned up by INEOS, which is now more apparent than ever. The US family remains the sole Premier League proprietor to receive dividends from the club, which are estimated to have totalled approximately £160 million since their acquisition in 2005.
This would suggest that Ratcliffe and his INEOS colleagues are interested in ultimately assuming control of the Theatre of Dreams. It is now assumed that a gentleman’s agreement has been reached to ensure that this occurs at a later date. Alternatively, why would the ongoing cost-cutting persist?
FourFourTwo has learnt that employees scoffed as CEO Omar Berrada delivered the news yesterday. The former Manchester City man pleaded with those in attendance not to disclose the news elsewhere.
It was also evident to those in the Manchester Suite that the responsibility for Manchester United’s significant shortcomings on the pitch is once again borne by them, as their best prospects for success this season are in the Europa League following a humiliating season in the Premier League.
