Manchester United player Antony break silence and delivers a reponse back to his criticism he has received Old Trafford
Antony scored United’s first league goal in 377 days against Burnley, but they couldn’t hold on for the win at Old Trafford.
Antony says that the criticism he has gotten while at Manchester United doesn’t bother him.
After 377 days, the 24-year-old scored his first Premier League goal to put United ahead 1-0 against Burnley. However, the 19th-placed team came back to tie the game 1-1 at Old Trafford.
United decided to pay Ajax £86.3 million for Antony on the last day of the transfer window in September 2022, but he has had a rough time at the club, especially this season.
The Brazil player took a break in September to deal with claims of domestic violence in both England and Brazil. Since he returned in October, he has had trouble performing.
Antony has played 36 times this season and scored three goals. He hasn’t played for Brazil in over a year. “It doesn’t really bother me because I know what I’m worth,” Antony said in the mixed area at Old Trafford.
“The money is the money, and everyone talks about it, but no one would if everyone and I were performing at our best.”
So it’s just a way for me to work harder because I know I can do better. I’ll always know how much I’m worth. As I already said, there will be critics, and that makes me want to work harder and show myself first.
To keep working hard and giving my all for the group, I think it’s most important to stay positive and on task.
“This year has been really hard for me and the team. The results are not what we thought they would be. I’m good at taking feedback, and I want to get better at it. I think we should all work on finishing the season as well as we can.
“We still have a few Premier League games and the final, but then we need to focus on the next season and not commit the mistakes we’ve committed this year.”
United boss Erik ten Hag brought Antony from Sao Paulo to Ajax in 2020 and tried to get back together with the winger during his first summer in Manchester. United isn’t going to make it to the Champions League, so Ten Hag’s job is unclear. However, if they beat City in the FA Cup final on May 25, they could end a rough season with a win.
Many people didn’t like how United advanced in their semi-final playoff win over Coventry, and they’ve only won two of their last nine Premier League games.
“We know we have a final and we want to win it but we need to get better in order to do so,” he said. “We still have five games to go, and we need to take each one as a chance to get better and find the best way to get to the final and win it.”
“Very upset about the draw (with Burnley)” Tonight is going to be really tough, especially since we gave up a goal in the last few minutes. We can’t be happy right now.
“I have high hopes for the group, and a win would make me very, very happy.” “I’m happy to score a goal, but only partly happy,”
Antony held up a Sonic the Hedgehog plush toy to celebrate his win over Burnley. He also put the ball under his shirt as a tribute to his son Lorenzo and his pregnant partner Rosilene Silva.
“Sonic is for my son,” Antony said with a smile. “He really likes Sonic.” There was a reason why my cameraman brought Sonic: he thought I was going to score today. Then I’m waiting for a little girl, which is the ball under the shirt.
