Bruno Fernandes paid close attention to Jadon Sancho’s first game for Chelsea and sent him a special message after he set up the game-winning goal.

Bruno Fernandes backed Jadon Sancho after the winger had a great first game for Chelsea in their win over Bournemouth on Saturday night.

The loan player from Manchester United made his debut for the Londoners when he came off the bench at halftime and set up Christopher Nkunku’s goal in the 86th minute. The winger took the place of Pedro Neto and gave the Cherries trouble, which earned him the Player of the Match award.

The last time he played in the Premier League was in August 2023, when they beat Nottingham Forest 3-2. Enzo Maresca, the manager of Chelsea, said after the game, “I think Jadon is a guy who needs love.” When I talked to him before he joined us, I thought this. I know he wants to show what a great player he is, but for me, it’s just fun to watch football.

“This is why they play.” They’re glad and want to play football. They want to have fun with football, and being good will make them do good things.

For his part, Sancho was thankful for the chance. “I’ve been working hard for this moment and I’m just happy that I got my chance,” said he. Being in the Champions League final at the end of last season was a great way to end it. I’m just glad to play my first game for Chelsea. I need to thank everyone on my team and the staff. They made me feel welcome the first day I came in, and I’m so glad I feel this at ease.

After the game, Sancho posted a picture of himself and Nkunku celebrating the goal on Instagram. He wrote, “Delighted to make my Chelsea debut and to top it off with a win!” Several Chelsea players and the United leader were among those who spoke out.

“Some player you [fire emoji].” I told her, “Keep that smile on your face.”

Sancho joined Chelsea on loan on the last day of the transfer window. The Blues have to pay between £20-£25 million to make Sancho’s loan move official next season. It’s clear that Sancho is no longer needed at Old Trafford, but it’s also clear that Fernandes still thinks highly of him as a player.
