News from Manchester United as Marcus Rashford says he will take a break from social media after a tough season, and he plans to do more after the FA Cup win.
Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford will take a break from his online activities during the off-season. Saturday, the forward helped his team win the FA Cup. He will have a busy summer now.
Rashford ended a tough season on a high note by helping Kobbie Mainoo score the important second goal at Wembley. In Erik ten Hag’s second year as manager, he only scored seven Premier League goals, and fans and people who follow the team on social media criticized him for it.
He used X, which used to be called Twitter, to protect himself against abuse earlier this season. This was just a few days after some fans booed him during the FA Cup semi-final penalty shootout win over Coventry City. Now that he has won his fifth major trophy with the team where he grew up, he is in a strong situation.
Rashford wrote online, “About a few weeks off from social media.” After a hard season, both personally and as a group, I plan to rest and reset my mind. Thanks to my friends for being there for me when things were tough. Those who didn’t remember, we always stick together at United [prayer hands emoji].”
After the FA Cup win over Manchester City, he shared another message that was just as defiant. “People want to know what Man Utd means to me! [red heart emoji].” Along with the message, he wrote a picture of himself crying and clapping for fans.
This summer, Rashford has been mentioned with a move away from Old Trafford, even though he just signed a new deal in August. It’s the first transfer window since Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe took over the club’s sports operations, and Ten Hag’s job as head coach is unclear.
Within the next few months, United has a lot to do, and one of them is to get Rashford back to his best. He won’t be going to an international event with his country like some of his teammates will because Gareth Southgate didn’t include him in his provisional 33-man squad for Euro 2024.
It gives Rashford a lot of time to get ready for the new season after a break.
