Manchester United player Marcus Rashford reacts with a clear message for not been selected for England Euro 2024 squad
Gareth Southgate has cut Marcus Rashford from England’s 33-person training group as they get ready for Euro 2024 this summer. Rashford plays for Manchester United.
Markus Rashford wished Gareth Southgate and the England players luck at Euro 2024 even though he wasn’t picked for the provisional team.
On Tuesday afternoon, Southgate named his 33-man squad for the matches against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iceland. Friday, June 7, is the second and final warm-up game. After that, Southgate will cut that group down to 26 people before the event in Germany.
Southgate has decided to bring a bigger-than-usual group to their training camp, but Rashford is still not one of them. The 26-year-old has had a rough season at Manchester United, making 42 appearances and hitting only eight goals. He has played in all four of the last big tournaments, though, and he did very well for England at the World Cup in Qatar, scoring the game-winning goal in their 3-0 win over Wales.
Southgate told the press in a press conference that he didn’t pick Rashford because “these are difficult calls.” When it comes to Marcus, I think other guys in that area have had better years. It’s really that easy.”
Rashford now has an Instagram account where he can talk about not being in the training group for Euro 2024. Rashford wrote on Instagram, along with a picture of the 33 players chosen, “Wishing Gareth and the boys all the best for the upcoming tournament.”
To go with Jude Bellingham, Jarrod Bowen, Eberechi Eze, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Anthony Gordon, Harry Kane, James Maddison, Cole Palmer, Bukayo Saka, Ivan Toney, and Ollie Watkins instead of Rashford are the forwards Southgate has picked. Raheem Sterling and Dominic Solanke have no place here.
Southgate has chosen some young players for his training group, including Eze and Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace, Jarrel Quansah from Liverpool, Kobbie Mainoo from Manchester United, and Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton. These players were chosen before the friendlies against Bosnia and Iceland.
Why wasn’t Henderson in the team? Southgate was asked. “He given himself every chance,” he said. What made the difference was the hurt he got in the last camp. He wasn’t able to get back to the level of energy after being away for five weeks. It wasn’t easy to decide.”
He went on to say more about Henderson’s absence: “He will be a miss.” He is a unique person and a great person overall. His job as boss has been going on for a long time. There are young players with a lot of games. Teenagers and young adults can indeed lead.
