After both he and Kobbie Mainoo scored in Man United’s 2-1 win over Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley, Alejandro Garnacho praised his partner.
Liverpool’s Kobbie Mainoo was told by Manchester United player Alejandro Garnacho that he is “the best” after the two of them scored goals in Saturday’s 2-1 FA Cup final win over Manchester City.
United won despite being the underdogs going into the game, thanks to goals in the first half from the two players listed above. Garnacho took advantage of a mistake by City’s defense before Mainoo finished off a great move with a cool finish.
The United defense was ready for a City attack in the second half, so they stood strong. Only Jeremy Doku’s shot from outside the penalty area got past Andre Onana at his near post. It would have been better for the Cameroonian.
Even though Doku’s late goal made the end very tense, United hung on to win and claim their first FA Cup title since 2016. They got exactly what they earned because they played so well to stop City.
There was no doubt that Mainoo was great in the middle of the field, controlling the game and helping his teammates keep players like Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne quiet. Mainoo said after the game that United’s goal was to make it hard for City to move around in the middle of the field.
Mainoo had a huge season, and scoring at Wembley was the cherry on top. He made his first Premier League start against Everton at Goodison Park in November. This 19-year-old has always been a big United fan, and he wrote a strong message on his Instagram page after the game.
In any way possible, he said, Have mercy on this sports team. THE 2024 FA CUP CHAMPIONS.”
The post by Mainoo, which had a bunch of pictures and a video, got a lot of comments and congratulations. One was from Garnacho, who also went to the academy and responded, “You are the best,” along with a love heart emoji.
Both Mainoo and Garnacho started the FA Youth Cup final win over Nottingham Forest in May 2022, and they get along great on and off the field. Because of their goals at Wembley on Saturday, each of their names will go down in United history.
