Mark Clattenburg gives firm VAR opinion as he weighs in on Auston Trusty’s Celtic red card

Celtic’s stalemate with Hearts was overshadowed by major controversy when Auston Trusty was dismissed with 13 minutes remaining at Tynecastle.

Manager Martin O’Neill strongly objected, insisting it was never a red card.

For the second straight match, VAR played a role in Celtic being reduced to ten men, following a similar situation in Bologna.

Although referee Steven McLean initially showed a yellow, VAR official John Beaton advised a review, leading to an upgrade to red — a move Mark Clattenburg disagreed with.

He felt the original caution was fair, arguing the ball wasn’t fully under control and was drifting away from goal. Clattenburg criticised VAR’s involvement, saying subjective calls like that should not be overturned using slow motion replays.
