Newcastle United’s transfer window may result in numerous departures.

Eddie Howe, the manager of the Newcastle United, is reportedly interested in acquiring a goalkeeper, winger, and striker during the January transfer window. This indicates that the window is expected to be quite active.

Nevertheless, Newcastle continues to grapple with the persistent issue of PSR, and it is widely believed that negotiations regarding the acquisition of a player will necessitate sales. A number of players, with the exception of John Ruddy, will be out of contract at the conclusion of the season.

Each of these players was recruited prior to Newcastle’s acquisition of the club in 2021. Among those who are currently without contracts are Sean Longstaff, Callum Wilson, and Fabian Schar, who may still be eligible for a new contract.

In the summer, Newcastle added Ruddy and Odysseas Vlachodimos to their first-team squad, bringing the total number of goalkeepers to five.

Newcastle has the option to acquire a replacement before releasing Dubravka, despite this. Newcastle is interested in Burnley’s James Trafford, but Scott Parker, the Clarets’ manager, is hesitant to release him.

The report implies that Al-Shabab, who have now concluded the appointment of Terim, have redirected their attention to the January transfer window and have identified Dubravka as a potential target.

Howe has previously acknowledged that he desires Dubravka to remain, stating that a transfer in January while he is in the process of establishing himself “would be illogical.” This season, Dubravka has demonstrated comparable proficiency to Nick Pope.

It is unsurprising that Dubravka is interested in January, as he has delivered several impressive performances in the absence of Nick Pope.

Pope is currently absent due to a knee ligament issue, and Howe has not yet provided him with a definitive return date.

Newcastle’s recent defensive performance is not an immediate concern. Dubravka has maintained three clear sheets in his most recent four games, conceding only one late goal in Newcastle’s victory over Brentford.

Despite playing 12 fewer games than Pope, Dubravka has already matched Pope’s total number of clean sheets in the Premier League. Pope has been inconsistent this season, conceding 21 goals in 15 Premier League games.

However, he now faces competition for the number one position when he is able to return. Pope’s return to the first team may prove more challenging than initially anticipated should Dubravka remain at Newcastle until the conclusion of the season.
