Martin O’Neill’s harsh assessment of Jahmai Simpson-Pusey sparks laughter after Celtic’s win over Kilmarnock

Celtic fans were in for a surprise as Martin O’Neill shook up his lineup against Kilmarnock.

Jahmai Simpson-Pusey, making his first appearance for the club, played out of position at right-back, while Luke McCowan, Reo Hatate, and Marcelo Saracchi also came into the side.

The 20-year-old Simpson-Pusey had been absent from all domestic squads and wasn’t registered for the Europa League under Brendan Rodgers.

O’Neill admitted he wasn’t overly impressed at the start, joking he thought about taking the youngster off after four minutes—but Simpson-Pusey ultimately held his own and earned applause.

Yang Hyun-Jun, coming off the bench, stole the spotlight with his pace and attacking threat.

Celtic now turn their attention to St Mirren after the international break, with O’Neill’s bold team selections sure to keep fans guessing.
