The Scottish FA has confirmed the match officials for this weekend’s Old Firm showdown between Celtic and Rangers.
The Premiership clash takes place at Parkhead on Saturday lunchtime, with a 12:30pm kick-off. Steven McLean has been appointed as the referee, assisted by David McGeachie and Jonathan Bell on the touchlines. Kevin Clancy will oversee VAR duties, supported by Grant Irvine.
Celtic go into the derby on the back of a disappointing 2–0 defeat away to Motherwell on Tuesday night. Wilfried Nancy’s side have endured a difficult spell since his appointment four weeks ago, losing five of their seven matches under the new manager.
Despite the recent run of results, Nancy remains optimistic ahead of his first Old Firm encounter. Speaking before the game, he stressed his understanding of the rivalry and its significance, insisting his team will approach the match with the required intensity and passion. He also pointed out that the days leading up to the fixture will allow his squad time to recover and properly prepare for the challenge.
Rangers, meanwhile, arrive in confident mood after securing a 2–1 victory over St Mirren at Ibrox earlier this week. Manager Danny Rohl will be eager to use the derby as an opportunity for revenge following last month’s 3–1 defeat to Celtic in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final.
Saturday’s contest will mark Nancy’s first experience of the Old Firm derby, adding further intrigue to a fixture already loaded with pressure and expectation.
