Michel-Ange Balikwisha is on the brink of becoming Celtic’s newest acquisition, having successfully completed a medical in London in preparation for a £5 million transfer from Royal Antwerp.
The 24-year-old winger is expected to finalise the paperwork on a long-term contract when he arrives in Glasgow, with only the final formalities now standing between him and an official unveiling as a Celtic player.
Celtic has been monitoring Balikwisha for an extended period of time, both during the summer and prior to it. The club has identified him as a critical attacking target in their pursuit of enhancing the quality and depth of their wide areas. Brendan Rodgers has consistently expressed his desire for reinforcements in the wide area, and his acquisition would be perceived as a substantial advantage.
Before discussions with Celtic intensified, the Belgian international had already appeared for Antwerp this season, scoring once in four appearances. Celtic have occasionally lacked his versatility, ability to outpace defenders, and eye for goal, particularly in high-pressure matches.
After the documentation is finalized and the registration process is completed, Balikwisha is anticipated to be available for selection. However, as the days approach Sunday, it is possible that he may have to wait until after the international break to make his Celtic debut.
