Nick Woltemade impressed once again for Newcastle United in their win over Fulham, with Michael Carrick claiming the German striker has added qualities that even Alexander Isak couldn’t provide.
Carrick praised the summer signing for transforming Newcastle’s attacking play, highlighting how his ability to drop deep, hold the ball up, and link with midfielders has given Eddie Howe’s side a new dimension.
While Isak was known for his pace and movement in behind defences, Woltemade’s physicality and technical play have opened space for teammates to exploit — a difference Carrick believes has elevated the Magpies’ overall performance.
Speaking on Match of the Day, the former Manchester United midfielder said:
“It actually suits the players around him. Woltemade wants to come to feet, which creates space for others to run beyond him. It’s a tweak in style that makes Newcastle harder to defend against.”
Carrick concluded that Woltemade’s presence is enhancing the roles of the midfielders and wingers, who now thrive on the extra room he creates by linking play.
