“Never occurred before” – Pep Guardiola concedes Man City’s defeat in a damning verdict
Pep Guardiola has abandoned his aspirations to resurrect his Manchester City team this season and has instructed them to compete for their futures.
The City manager has been adamant that his greatest desire has been to have his squad at his disposal ever since the Blues’ injuries in October. Guardiola, who had previously expressed his reluctance to spend in January and resisted a summer reconstruction, maintained that his squad would be capable of competing with any team in Europe when it was fully healthy.
That appeared to be the case against Real Madrid on Tuesday night, as City outplayed the European champions with their lowest number of absences since September. Despite the fact that Jack Grealish and Manu Akanji sustained injuries during the course of the match, they maintained a 2-1 lead with five minutes remaining.
However, they proceeded to concede the game in a manner that has become increasingly commonplace.Guardiola, who has become accustomed to his team conceding unjustifiable goals to their opponents, acknowledged on Friday that his aspiration to restore this squad to its peak performance is unlikely to be realized.
He then went on to admit that City are experiencing difficulties both with and without the ball this season, which is a remarkable admission. “The big, big success of the team was when we were able to do 20, 25, 30 sequences of passes in the opponents’ half, and now we are not able to do it,”
according to him. “Certainly, you must persist; the team is designed to do so.” Building the team in this manner is the reason for its success. “However, we no longer engage in this activity because we are motivated by the desire to score, accelerate, or achieve a second goal.
The crowd is urging us to do so.” No, no, no, no. We must participate in order to score, you know? It is challenging to accomplish this task due to the fact that the team is so… let’s consider tomorrow, you know? Would you say that we are capable of competing with Newcastle’s physicality?
