Newcastle plot move for ‘highly rated’ England star as transfer twist unfolds

Newcastle United are reportedly monitoring Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White as uncertainty grows around his future at the City Ground.

The England international could be set for a summer move after a proposed transfer to Tottenham collapsed last year.

Although Gibbs-White later committed his future to Forest by signing a contract running until 2028, financial pressures at the club could prompt renewed interest from Premier League rivals once the season ends.

Gibbs-White has been one of Forest’s standout performers this campaign, contributing six goals and three assists across 29 appearances in all competitions under Sean Dyche.

Newcastle tracking Gibbs-White situation

According to journalist Graeme Bailey, Newcastle are closely aware of the midfielder’s circumstances and may consider a move if Forest are prepared to sanction his departure. The 24-year-old is regarded as a “sensational” talent, and the Magpies could view him as a key addition ahead of next season.

However, Newcastle would not be alone in the race. Tottenham remain long-term admirers and are expected to revisit their interest regardless of whether Thomas Frank remains in charge following a challenging start to his tenure in north London.

Forest’s own situation could play a major role. The club have endured a difficult season, with Dyche becoming their third manager after Nuno Espírito Santo and Ange Postecoglou. Sitting just five points above the relegation zone, the Tricky Trees may struggle to hold onto key players, with Gibbs-White, Elliot Anderson and Murillo all attracting significant attention.

Howe considering reinforcements

While Newcastle have yet to make major moves in the January window, recent defensive injuries could accelerate plans to strengthen the squad.

Tino Livramento and Fabian Schär have both suffered setbacks, while Dan Burn and Emil Krafth have also missed recent matches. Club captain Jamaal Lascelles is currently available for transfer.

With squad depth becoming an increasing concern, Newcastle’s interest in Gibbs-White may develop further as the summer window approaches.
