Newcastle plot swoop for star player dreaming of Premier League move

Newcastle United eye Levante striker Etta Eyong to boost attacking options

Newcastle United are reportedly considering a summer move for Levante forward Etta Eyong as manager Eddie Howe looks to strengthen his attacking options, according to Fichajes.

The Magpies endured a busy transfer period last summer, losing star striker Alexander Isak to Liverpool in a British record £125m deal.

They responded by signing Yoanne Wissa and Nick Woltemade as replacements, but neither has delivered consistently this season, leaving Newcastle in search of further reinforcements.

Eyong, 22, has emerged as one of La Liga’s standout performers this campaign, registering six goals and three assists in 20 appearances for both Villarreal and Levante. He also impressed on the international stage with Cameroon at the African Cup of Nations, scoring once as his side reached the quarter-finals.

Reports suggest Newcastle sporting director Ross Wilson has been closely monitoring Eyong, impressed by his ability even during periods when he has struggled to find the net. Levante value the striker at over €30m (£26m), a significant fee by Spanish market standards, but Newcastle are reportedly willing to meet it, viewing him as a potential bargain given his talent.

Eyong is said to be open to a move to the Premier League, seeing it as a platform to showcase his abilities. Newcastle will continue to track his performances until the end of the season before deciding whether to launch a formal approach.

The potential signing comes amid ongoing struggles for Wissa and Woltemade. Wissa has scored just once since joining from Brentford, hampered by a knee injury, while Woltemade, signed for his potential, has found the league’s pace and intensity challenging after a strong start.

Eyong’s lack of top-flight experience makes him a risk on the pitch, but his talent and relative affordability could make him an attractive option as Newcastle seek to avoid another season of goal-scoring struggles.
