Diarmuid O’Carroll has been named as the new manager of Newcastle United’s reserve team.
Newcastle United has hired Diarmuid O’Carroll as the head boss of the Under-21 team.
The 37-year-old quit his job as number two at St. Mirren to work with the club’s best young players and give the second team a new look. Paul Mitchell, the sports director, is very happy with the hire after a long summer of looking for someone to replace Ben Dawson.
Mitchell said of the hire, “Diarmuid is a very well-known coach and is a great fit for the type of person we’ve been looking to hire.”

There is only ONE player at Newcastle United right now who is good enough to play for the team.
“During the early years of his coaching career, he gained a lot of experience by working with youth teams, men’s and women’s club teams, and teams from around the world.”
“The Academy is an important part of our sports strategy, and Diarmuid plays a key role in getting players ready for the next big step in their development.”
“The Academy has produced exceptional players over recent years, and we look forward to supporting Steve Harper, Diarmuid and our Academy team in continuing to build on that excellent record.”
“I’m really excited to come in,” O’Carroll, who used to be the manager of Motherwell’s Under-18 team, said. I’m really excited to start playing this part.
In terms of size, status, and number of fans, the club speaks for itself. Now that they own the business and have plans for the future, it’s also a very exciting time.
“The opportunity to come in is something I would’ve never expected, but when it come across my desk, it was a really exciting one and a quick process.”
Steve Harper, who is in charge of the academy, said, “I’m thrilled Diarmuid has agreed to become Lead Coach of Newcastle United Under-21s.”
“He is a young, forward-thinking, and driven coach who will be very important in helping our young players get to the first team.”
“I also want to thank Jack Ross, Neil Winskill, and everyone else involved with the Under-21s for all their hard work and willingness to work together while we hired for this position.”
“We went through a tough process, and Diarmuid is a great coach and person who is joining us.” I’d like to make him feel welcome at Newcastle United.
