Newcastle United and Liverpool continue to desire a Premier League midfielder following Chelsea’s decision to backtrack on their free transfer decision.

The Southampton midfielder, who is 18 years old, has since made 26 first-team appearances for The Saints and has scored twice in the Premier League this season.

Dibling has become an England Under-21s international and has broken into the Southampton first-team, as The Gazette disclosed last month.

Newcastle has continued to monitor his progress. In 2022, Dibling scored a hat-trick in the first half for Southampton Under-21s against Newcastle Under-21s at the Gallowgate End as a 16-year-old.

The Magpies have been monitoring the teenager since that time and were on the brink of signing him on a free transfer in the summer of 2022, when his junior contract at Southampton had expired.

Publicity Dibling ultimately transferred to Chelsea, his Premier League adversaries, before returning to Southampton two months later due to his inability to adapt to London.

Newcastle’s recruitment team has assessed Dibling’s adaptability to Newcastle’s lifestyle, despite the fact that they have continued to monitor him.
