Newcastle United are on the brink of securing their first summer signing following their excursion to Tyneside. Newcastle initiated negotiations with the 18-year-old Malaga winger Antonio Cordero in

January to negotiate a pre-contract agreement, as his contract expires in the summer. Cordero has been associated with Arsenal, Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Barcelona by numerous sources; however, the Magpies appear to be the frontrunners in the competition.

It is alleged that Newcastle intends to promptly assign the Spanish youngster to a loan situation for the upcoming season, similar to what they did with Yankuba Minteh. United was compelled to sell the Gambian player, who was acquired from Odense Boldklub and spent a year on loan at Feyenoord, in order to comply with the  Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Before joining Malaga in 2021, Cordero was on the books at Cadiz, Sevilla, and Real Betis. He was born in Jerez, a city in southern Spain. Cordero initially gained recognition in the Spanish fifth-tier by breaking into Malaga’s “B-team” and netting 12 goals in 17 appearances. He has also been capped for Spain at the under-18 and under-19 levels.

Newcastle announced a deal for Dinamo Tbilisi forward Vaktang Salia last year. Salia will formally relocate to St James’ Park when he turns 18 in August. The Georgian, similar to Cordero, is anticipated to go out on loan.

In January, the Magpies acquired Kyle Fitzgerald, an adolescent from the Republic of Ireland, from Galway United, and Baran Yildiz from Turkish second-tier side Genclerbirligi.

Mitchell stated last year that the market is fiercely competitive, and that scouting and recruiting emerging talent is an essential component of constructing a sustainable future, particularly within the current PSR framework.

This underscores the significance of signing youthful talent. “We are committed to conducting ongoing scouting efforts, both domestically and internationally, in order to identify players who have the potential to progress through our talent pathway and, ideally, join the first team in the future.”
