Everyone linked with Newcastle United, including the club’s manager Eddie Howe, has voiced their disapproval with the decision to disallow Fabian Schar’s opening goal for the Magpies.

The Swiss defender believed that he had put his team ahead in the 75th minute, but after checking the video assistant referee for a considerable amount of time, it was determined that referee Sam Allison ought to have a second look at the pitchside monitor. Not more than a minute passed before the referee reversed his initial decision and punished Dan Burn for a foul that had been ruled to have been committed against Fulham defender Calvin Bassey.

Burn made contact with the ball after the opportunity to remove the danger had passed. The former Ajax great made a leap to head away Anthony Gordon’s cross, but he was never able to reach the ball. Schar capitalized on the situation by scoring a goal, but the authorities cut off his celebrations before he could finish.

The goal scored by Bruno Guimaraes two minutes later was the fortunate event that allowed Newcastle to secure all three points on a challenging afternoon. During his remarks following the victory, Howe was still questioned about the Schar decision, and he made his thoughts abundantly apparent.

“Live, I was under the impression that it was a goal. The manager of Newcastle admitted that Dan Burn jumped in a manner that was both aggressive and fair. “I was not shocked that it went to the VAR since situations like this typically happen, but then I expected the VAR would say that it was fine even though it was not.

“At that point, I was under the impression that the referee would go back and examine his decision, which he had stated as a goal. I believed that he would have the strong mindset to have a look at it, but he did not. I was under the impression that it was an excellent objective until it was disregarded.

When the two teams competed against one other in the FA Cup back in January, Alan Shearer was present at the Craven Cottage away end to watch the match. Despite the fact that he was in the United States for Premier League business, the legendary player for the Magpies still managed to find the time to express his thoughts on the decision.

“You’re not disallowing that one VAR,” Shearer tweeted after Guimaraes fired home the point just a few moments after the initial disagreement.

This is a significant week for Howe’s team and the club’s season, as Newcastle’s victory brings their total to seven points out of a possible nine.
