Eddie Howe, the manager of Newcastle United, has talked about why Alexander Isak was taken off in Tokyo.
Alexander Isak was taken off at halftime in Tokyo, but Eddie Howe has put Alexander’s mind at ease about his health.
He does say, though, that the injury scare is a good warning that Newcastle are always just a couple of injuries away from having a problem. After an early crash, Isak got hit in the shoulder, but he was told he could keep going.
Isak looked good when he left the Tokyo venue, and he didn’t mind the change at halftime, which Howe later said was part of the plan.
“No, that was planned for him,” Howe told Chronicle Live. Yes, he did fall on his shoulder early in the game. It hurt, but he was fine to play on. There shouldn’t be any problems, but we need to check the system and see how his shoulder is. Other than that, I think he looks fine.
The Toon boss then said he wanted to bring in another forward because the scare showed that the situation can get bad when there aren’t many people on the attack. Someone caught Callum Wilson skipping back at the practice ground, but he didn’t go because he hurt his back.
Howe said, “I don’t know if it’s more than one or two of them (being an injury away from a crisis), I think it’s more one!” when asked if Newcastle’s forward choices could get dicey and if the Isak situation showed that.
“But yeah, of course, I think you’re always two or three injuries away from any one position looking weak during the preseason.”
“It will be great to have Anthony Gordon and Kieran Trippier back with the rest of the team so that we can work as a unit.” It has felt broken in different ways. Some players have played a lot of first minutes in preseason, and I think that showed in how we played today.
Howe was also asked what was going on with Marc Guéhi and William Osulu after they were contacted by Crystal Palace and Sheff United, respectively.
Howe answered, “We are still working on the transfer market.” I’m not up to date on all of those moves, but I know we’re having fun. We hope to have news for you soon. I’m not going to talk about deals one-on-one.”
