Newcastle United
Newcastle United coach Eddie Howe responded to the midfielder Bruno Guimarães goodbye’ message after the end of their Premier League match against Brentford
Eddie Howe is adamant that the Magpies’ owners in Saudi Arabia are still “very serious” about taking the team to the next level.
Newcastle United has had £400 million spent on transfers and £10 million put into training facilities thanks to the support of 80% of the club’s owners. The club used to be struggling and was in danger of relegation. Because of that, Newcastle has gone from always being in danger of relegation to a team that can compete in Europe.
Even though PIF has also put money into LIV Golf, UFC, racing, and Formula One, Howe is still sure that the project at Newcastle will grow.
“They (PIF) are very serious about it,” Howe said. There’s been no sign of that to me. The problem is that you can put any amount of money into those games. You can’t do that here, and I think that’s the point. That’s what everyone in the football world is talking about right now.
We don’t know how much Newcastle will spend on new players this summer, but at St. James’ Park, nothing will be left out. That being said, Howe is honest about how well Newcastle can do in the coming years.
Notably, Howe said that his goal to lead Newcastle to the top will never change, no matter how much money or tools the team has.
“I don’t think you can look at it as a race,” he said. “Everyone wants the club to grow quickly.” Based on the rules, the club will move forward at the fastest rate possible.
“I know everyone wants to do well yesterday. Sometimes it’s my job to stop that and give a more accurate picture of what’s going on at the football club.
Howe was at the table with the club’s owners when Toon head Yasir Al-Rumayyan met with them in Northumberland.
He said, “We are trying to grow it, but the players and staff have done incredibly well in the time I have been here.” This made it sound like everyone agreed on how fast Newcastle could grow.
“I think we’ve made a lot of progress quickly, and everyone has done a great job. I get that people want more, but you have to admit that we’ve done pretty well so far.”
“The ambition is there, but you have to work within the reality and the reality is we are not the number one club off the pitch yet in terms of income or the number one club in lots of areas, so for us to get there takes a lot of hard work.”
