People are still wondering if the Magpies will be able to keep talented players like Isak and Bruno Guimaraes after the summer is over. The Swede is getting better and better in a black and white shirt. With more great finishes in front of goal, it’s no wonder that Eddie Howe was asked a lot of questions about the Swede, how he’s getting better, and his long-term future on Tyneside.

The Newcastle manager asked Isak seven questions, and as usual, he said that he wanted to keep the club’s record deal at St. James’ Park all summer and for a long time to come. Here’s what Howe said about the 24-year-old forward right after the big win on Saturday.

“What we need to do as a club is keep our drive and ambition.” It’s out there. They need to feel that way too in order to commit to the club for the long term.

Q: Is he a better player now than when he first came in? If so, what specifics have changed for the better?

Howe: “He’s definitely a better player in my opinion.” We got a really great player. But I think you automatically get better when you play in the Premier League. The league is so tough on the body that it’s hard to play.

“I think Alex will agree with that. When you play the way we do and tell our guys to, you have to lead the line. It’s not easy. You can tell that he has to work hard every week.

“But I think he’s become better all around.” Most importantly, he’s sure of himself when he’s in front of the goal. That trust had to come, and it did. He came to us having scored six goals in La Liga. He’s likely at the top of his game right now. I like watching him play because he seems to be in a great place.

Q: When you looked at Alex, what did you like about him?

Howe: “I think the first thing I noticed about him was how good he was at technology.” It moves very well for a No. 9. You can sort your shooters by the type they are when you’re looking for them.

“That was hard to do with Alex because he can do a lot of different things.” His body was in great shape; he was super fast and very flexible. When you add in the athletic skills, you think, “We have a great player here.”

“He should have added goals from his last season in Spain.” The team has helped him do that, which is great. But he is always up against a task. Right now he has to keep going, which is tough at this level.

What kind of person is he, and how happy is he with the group?

“I think he’s really happy with the group,” Howe said. That’s not something I know for sure because I’m speaking on his behalf, but he looks happy.

“He gets along well with his teammates and has a lot of good friends.” He seems happy to be going to school, and he doesn’t need much attention. He was quiet around the players but well-liked by everyone.

Q) You always have a chance when you have a winner like Alex Isak on your team.

When it comes to the first goal, Howe said, “Great ball from Jacob Murphy.” It was very close to being offside, but that’s what makes Isak’s run so great. High-level finish that was very important for us when we were having trouble getting a base.

“It was also great to see Alex connect with Callum Wilson at the end.” It’s great to see them passing to each other and working together.

Q: Is he the best in the world?

Howe: “I believe he is.” Since I’m very focused on my team and not thinking too much about every player in the world, I’m not the best person to give you that answer. But the big question is: would I trade him for someone else? I wouldn’t, no.

“He’s very talented when you look at his age, what he’s going to become, and his traits and qualities.”

Q: Does the message still say “He’s not for sale”?

Howe: “To be honest, it’s a shame for both me and Alex.” I get the question, but that’s what matters most: how well he does and how many goals he scores.

“He’s playing well right now, full of confidence, and his body is in great shape, so we should enjoy his games.” Watching him play is fun.

Isak and other guys like him talked to you about why they should stay?

Howe: “I don’t want to talk about that every week.” But you want your football players to always play their best and show the world how good they are. Unless you’re right at the top of the tree, which we’re not right now, it goes hand in hand.
