Newcastle United is expected to finalise their inaugural summer acquisition next week, following their European disappointment.
On Thursday evening in Bucharest, the Netherlands defeated the Spain Under-19s in the Under-19 European Championship final. Cordero began the 1-0 loss on the left flank and nearly scored a sublime goal from a distance. However, the game was ultimately decided by an own goal by Raul Jimenez.
Just days prior to Newcastle United’s official announcement of his transfer, 18-year-old Cordero experiences disappointment. He is expected to become the inaugural official summer acquisition for The Magpies. Newcastle United will welcome Antonio Cordero next week. Cordero will relocate to Newcastle on a free transfer on July 1, following the conclusion
of his contract with Malaga at the end of June. During the 2024/25 season in the Spanish second division, the teenager scored six goals and provided seven assists for Malaga. Newcastle were able to secure a contract for Cordero, despite the fact that Real Madrid and Barcelona were interested in him due to his potential and first-team experience at a young age.
Although he will officially join Newcastle next week, he will not be able to join the first-team squad when it resumes training on July 7. Instead, Newcastle will provide Cordero with an extended vacation following the Under-19s European Championships in order to secure a loan destination for him.
