Newcastle United’s first deal of 2025 has been officially announced; the former Sunderland player will be responsible for the summon.

Vakhtang Salia, a 17-year-old Georgian forward, has been confirmed as Newcastle United’s inaugural signing of 2025.

Salia will formally join the club from Dinamo Tbilisi when he turns 18 in August.

In 2024, the adolescent scored six goals in 28 Erovnuli Liga appearances, cementing his status as a regular at Dinamo.

The acquisition has been compared to the transfers of Yankuba Minteh and Miodrag Pivas, who respectively joined Newcastle from lesser-known European divisions with the expectation of establishing a career in the first team following initial loan stints.

Newcastle were able to transfer Minteh to Brighton & Hove Albion for a substantial profit over the summer, despite the fact that the winger had not played a single game for the club, due to the success of his loan at Feyenoord.

“We are committed to conducting a comprehensive scouting effort, both domestically and internationally, in order to identify players who can progress through our talent pathway and, ideally, join the first team in the future.”

“We look forward to working with Vakhtang and wish him every success during his remaining time with Dinamo Tbilisi.”
