Belgian international Nico Raskin is entering the final 18 months of his Rangers contract but has indicated he is open to signing a new long-term deal at Ibrox.
The 24-year-old, considered one of the club’s most prized assets, is aware that with the World Cup approaching next summer, his future will need to be decided soon. Rangers would need to sell him in January or at the end of the season if they wish to cash in.
Raskin, who had previously been dropped from the squad under ex-manager Russell Martin, insists he is willing to extend his stay at the Scottish champions. He is also clear that if he does leave, Rangers should receive a fair transfer fee. Ahead of the Europa League clash with Braga, Raskin said:
“I’m very happy here. We’ve got a new manager and are trying to build something positive. I’m taking it day by day and just giving my best for the club.”
On the importance of not running his contract down and leaving on a Bosman, he added:
“If I have to leave, I want everyone to be happy and for it to be done the right way. I’ve never thought otherwise.”
Raskin joined Rangers in January 2023 for a nominal fee under then-manager Michael Beale and quickly became a fan favourite. Despite being axed from Martin’s squad for an Old Firm derby—amid claims he was distracted by transfer speculation—Raskin has been working to regain his form both physically and mentally. He acknowledged that the period was tough and felt a misleading picture of him was created but emphasized that he is focused on the future under new management.
“I’m not someone who likes to headline dramas. I just want to do my job and help the team,” he said.
Throughout the controversy, Rangers supporters remained firmly behind him, chanting his name even when he was absent from the squad. With Danny Rohl now in charge, Raskin is motivated to repay the faith shown by the fans and help the team succeed.
