Most people will say that Celtic has been much better than Rangers over the last 13 years.
Celtic has won more titles than any other club in Scotland. Next season, Brendan Rodgers wants to win the club’s fifth title in a row.
It will be the seventh Rangers manager that the Celtic manager has faced in two Parkhead stints. That manager is Russell Martin.
And Martin O’Neill, a legendary Celtic player, has a harsh truth to tell the new Rangers manager about how his team has tried four times to catch the Bhoys.
O’Neill says that Celtic can “tough it out” while Rangers “can’t.”
Celtic beat Rangers by a huge 17 points in the Scottish Premiership table, even though the Glasgow derbies were very close last season.
And as Martin gets ready to play the current Scottish champions, O’Neill tells the Ibrox manager the harsh truth about how his team is trying to catch Parkhead.
O’Neill told talkSPORT [3m 40s]: “The most important thing for us as managers is that just win. That’s the easiest thing in the world to tell managers going into a football club.” You need to win. You can win in any way you choose.
“It’s a bonus if you win by playing really nice football by playing the ball out from the back.” You have to win, though.
A long time ago, the Rangers did not have a winning streak. They haven’t been winning all the time. As they showed last season, they can actually play one-on-one with Celtic in a certain game.
“But they are completely unable to go, say, away from home and win games that everyone expects them to win.”
They have been having trouble for a long time because they can’t tough it out. They can’t really put up with it. It’s something Celtic has been able to do.
“Celtic do a much better job of winning games, especially games that everyone thinks they will win.”
