Norwich City are well aware that major reinforcements are needed this month if they are to avoid relegation from the Championship, and the Canaries have reportedly identified Vancouver Whitecaps standout Ali Ahmed as a key transfer target as Philippe Clement prepares for his first window in charge at Carrow Road.
Results have improved slightly since Liam Manning’s dismissal, with Clement suffering just three defeats in his opening ten matches as head coach. While performances have picked up, Norwich remain stuck in the relegation zone due to the damage done earlier in the campaign.
Wins over QPR, Charlton Athletic and promotion-chasing Southampton have provided encouragement, however, and the club could receive another timely lift if a deal for Ahmed can be struck before the window closes.
Norwich City line up move for Vancouver Whitecaps star Ali Ahmed
According to reports from The Pink Un, Norwich have been monitoring Ahmed closely after tracking the Canadian international for an extended period during his time with MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps. Although negotiations are still at an early stage and no agreement is imminent, the 25-year-old is understood to be among several attacking options being considered during a crucial month for the club’s survival push.
Clement has already stressed the importance of adding quality in January, and Ahmed is viewed as a potentially shrewd acquisition who could strengthen the squad in multiple areas.
Ali Ahmed earns praise amid Norwich City transfer interest
Ahmed has built a growing reputation in MLS and enjoyed a breakthrough 2025 season with the Whitecaps. In his third full campaign as a first-team regular, he registered four goals and 12 assists across all competitions, including 10 in league play, helping Vancouver finish second in the Western Conference.
Primarily operating on the left flank, Ahmed is also capable of filling in at left-back or in central midfield, where his attributes have drawn particular praise. Former Canada head coach John Herdman once highlighted the 22-cap international’s sharp acceleration, noting that he possesses “the 10-yard speed that top midfielders have.”
A consistent presence in the Canada setup, Ahmed’s pace, versatility and creative output could add much-needed energy and invention to Norwich’s side as they fight to avoid a drop into League One, should a deal be completed in the coming weeks.
