The Blaugrana had the potential to face any of the seven La Liga clubs that advanced to this stage of the quarterfinals: Valencia, Real Sociedad, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Getafe, Leganes, and Osasuna.And now, the draw, conducted today at the RFEF Headquarters at Las Rozas has seen them get paired up against Valencia.
Since Los Che were drawn first, the upcoming quarterfinal match will take place at their home venue, Mestalla. Barcelona commenced their participation in the cup competition from the Round of 32 earlier this month, having been granted an exemption from the preceding stages owing to their involvement in the Spanish Super Cup.
The Catalans advanced comfortably past the lower-division team UD Barbastro, securing a decisive 4-0 victory in the Round of 32. Subsequently, they dominated fellow La Liga competitor Real Betis, achieving a resounding 5-1 triumph in the Round of 16 last week.
In the interim, Valencia has exclusively faced lower-division teams in the competition, achieving victories against Parla Escuela, Ejea, Eldense, and Ourense. The two clubs faced each other on the inaugural day of the La Liga season, resulting in a victory for Barcelona over Valencia with a score of 2-1.
The quarterfinal match will be contested as a single-leg encounter and is scheduled to take place between the 4th and 6th of February. Barcelona is scheduled to compete against Deportivo Alavés and Sevilla, with these matches occurring adjacent to this fixture in La Liga.
