Pablo Barrios, the star of Atletico Madrid, has been summoned up to the Spain U21 squad as a result of his impressive performance for Los Rojiblancos. Barrios has been reinstated into the La Roja squad by head coach Santi Denia, following his absence from the previous four U21 games due to injury. He will participate in a friendly match against England and Denmark this month in preparation for the U21 European Championship next summer.
Barrios secured a gold medal with Spain at the 2024 Paris Olympics and is currently establishing himself as a critical figure at the club level, despite speculation regarding a potential transfer to the Premier League in 2025, following a turbulent year. While six starts from 12 La Liga games may not be particularly noteworthy, it is important to note that he only started 17 league games in the entirety of 2023/24.
Initial indications suggest that he will surpass this threshold in 2025.. On November 10, Atletico Madrid concludes their international break with a voyage to Mallorca, following Barrios’ completion of 90 minutes in their midweek 2-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League.
