Celtic earned three points on Boxing Day, and Anthony Ralston was once again included in the starting lineup.
Celtic took their time, and a penalty in the first half helped to invigorate the game.
However, the Bhoys ultimately secured a comfortable 4-0 victory over Motherwell.Ralston maintained his position in the starting lineup and was afforded the opportunity to demonstrate his merits as a starter in additional games, as Alistair Johnston was still unavailable due to injury.
Johnston will continue to be the top performer due to his consistent record over the years, regardless of whether the Scotland star delivers exceptional performance after exceptional performance.
Typically, the Canadian international is preceded by Nicolas Kuhn, who has been Celtic’s most productive player this season.
However, Ralston has not been afforded that luxury in his most recent appearances and has instead partnered with Yang Hyun-Jun.
Pat Bonner regarding Anthony Ralston’s failure to advance prior to providing an assist for Nicolas Kuhn’s goal When it comes to forward play, Johnston and Ralston exhibit a significant disparity in quality, and the former has achieved a new level of excellence this season.
However, Pat Bonner observed that Ralston rarely launched himself forward when partnering Yang on the right-hand side during the first half, as he stated in an interview with BBC Radio Scotland.
Yang was replaced after the hour mark, and unsurprisingly, it was Ralston who was in the attacking positions, assisting Kuhn in scoring his goal.
“That is the aspect of the relationship with Tony Ralston and Yang on the right-hand side that we did not discuss at halftime,” Bonner stated. “I cannot recall Tony Ralston frequently occupying the forward positions in the first half, as Johnston would do with his partner Kuhn.
“You do synthesise with him slightly, but it does not help matters that, for significant portions of the last two matches, he has rarely had Kuhn ahead of him.
