Pep Guardiola admits Man City ‘are struggling’ after Aston Villa defeat.
Pep Guardiola acknowledges Manchester City “are struggling” following their loss to Aston Villa. Pep Guardiola has acknowledged that his Manchester City side is “struggling” at the moment and held himself accountable for turning things around.
On Wednesday night, the defending champions suffered a 1-0 loss to Aston Villa, prolonging their league-leading winless streak to four games and dropping City to fourth place in the standings. Villa dominated the match, but Unai Emery’s squad earned all three points on the strength of a second-half goal by Leon Bailly. The three points propel Villa above City in the standings.Guardiola stated the team must progress prior to encounters with Luton Town and Crystal Palace. “It is my responsibility and occupation to devise a strategy for my return, as we have worked together for many years to find a way to play games, albeit occasionally unsuccessfully but consistently managing to do so; however, we are currently encountering difficulties,” he elaborated. “In order to maintain our position, we must alter the dynamic by securing victories against Luton and Crystal Palace in the near future. I need to give it some thought. “I must sleep, watch the games, reflect, and make an effort to complete the task.”
Even more concerning for City was the fact that their last shot of the 11th minute against Villa came after facing 22 shots, the joint-most of any opponent in Guardiola’s tenure to attempt against his squad in a league match.”The superior team prevailed,” the City manager conceded. “Aston Villa outperformed our team.” It was extremely challenging due to the fact that they are extremely physical and possess considerable control over numerous aspects. They are at the top of the table because of their excellent football performance; we were unable to compete.
