Pep Guardiola provides a disheartening injury update prior to the match between Manchester City and Tottenham.
Manchester City have encountered a variety of injury complications during the 2024/25 season.
Rodri sustained a season-ending injury in September, in addition to Oscar Bobb’s severe injury prior to the commencement of the Premier League campaign.
It is undeniable that City’s injury and fitness issues contributed to their recent poor form, as they had lost their four previous matches prior to the November internationalbreak.
Pep Guardiola’s team will resume play on Saturday when they host Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad Stadium for their inaugural Premier League encounter of the season, following the conclusion of the break.
Guardiola provided an update on the fitness of a specific member of his squad prior to this critical match, which will undoubtedly disappoint City supporters. Mateo Kovacic’s injury status is disclosed by Pep Guardiola.
In response to a question regarding whether any City players who were in action for their countries during the international break had returned unwell, Guardiola disclosed that Mateo Kovacic sustained an injury that could result in his absence for up to one month.
The absence of Kovacic will be a significant loss for City. Kovacic was substituted off at halftime in Croatia’s 1-1 draw with Portugal on Monday, following his 90-minute appearance in the team’s 1-0 loss to Scotland last week.
Kovacic has started 12 of the 15 matches in which he has appeared across all competitions this season, and he has played the complete 90 minutes on 10 occasions.
After considering this, it is evident that the 30-year-old is a critical member of the Blues and will be a significant loss to the team during his absence. In addition to the match against Spurs on Saturday,
Kovacic will be absent from critical league games against Liverpool, Manchester United, and Aston Villa, as well as a significant Champions League match against Juventus that will take place away from home, if he is expected to be absent for an entire month.
