Pep Guardiola provides an explanation for Manchester City’s decision to transfer a Premier League player who had not made an appearance for the first team.
Morgan Rogers’ departure from Manchester City without making a single first-team appearance has been explicated by manager Pep Guardiola. The England youth international has experienced significant growth since joining Aston Villa in February of last year.
His transfer from Championship side Middlesbrough was somewhat unexpected, and the transaction is expected to be worth up to £15 million.
After a period of just over six months at the Riverside Stadium in the second tier of English football and three successive loan transfers away from Manchester City, the player transitioned to regular Premier League football.
Rogers was presented with the ultimate opportunity to disprove Manchester City officials’ decision to transfer him without a clear pathway into the first-team squad earlier this month. He delivered a stunning performance during Aston Villa’s 2-1 victory at Villa Park.
Morgan Rogers’ absence from the Manchester City first team and subsequent departure for Middlesbrough were the result of a poor case of right location, wrong time, according to Pep Guardiola during a recent press conference.
The Manchester City manager clarified, “There are times when it is the appropriate time to give a chance. Everyone is aware of the exceptional talent of Morgan and many of the players who were loaned or sold from Manchester City.
However, there were moments when we had players at that age who enabled us to achieve the most success in the history of our club.”
