Peter Schmeichel fires a brutal message to Manchester City after the crowd controversy during their Match against Inter at the Etihad Stadium

Manchester City’s first game in the Champions League was a disappointing 0-0 draw with Inter at the Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola’s team didn’t have many chances because the away team was strong. Ilkay Gundogan had the best chance for Chelsea that night. But one of the main things people talked about after the game was not what happened during the 90 minutes, but what happened in the mixed zone later.

Schmeichel, a former goalie for Manchester United and City, was very blunt about the home crowd’s “performance” on CBS Sport. He said, “I love good football and I like crowds that get excited, but it was dead today. The Eithad was completely dead.”

“The only people we could hear were the Inter fans. They were loud, but the Etihad didn’t have any atmosphere today.” You might expect big European nights to have a certain vibe, but that didn’t happen for them.”

Micah Richards called Schmeichel out on what he said, and Schmeichel replied, “Micah, leave the studio every once in a while and experience it instead of sitting there and judging us for what we are saying.” It was so flat on Saturday, when Micah was there, so they might have left out all the mood.

Since Schmeichel is well-known all over the city, it may not have been a surprise to see him act this way after this week’s Champions League match. Even pundits should be able to criticize the setting, but what he said was completely off-key and didn’t get the point at all.

It was true that the home end of the Etihad Stadium wasn’t as loud as we’re used to seeing in the Champions League across Europe. That being said, this is exactly what the owners of Premier League football clubs want.

Clubs in the top flight have been losing their cool because the greedy people at the top are raising ticket prices to crazy high levels. All this does is bring in people with lots of money to the games instead of the loyal fans whose wallets are getting tight right now.

Schmeichel might want to think about who he wants to insult the next time he goes on a rant about atmospheres. Take a guess: it’s not the fans…

A lot of people make fun of Manchester City’s home fans and the mood at the Etihad Stadium, but I don’t think it’s the worst in the Premier League or even the Champions League. It might have been quiet against Inter Milan, but I don’t think that’s the fans’ fault either.

There were some empty places at the game against Inter, but since ticket prices are going up and City has so many home games, is that really a surprise? I’m not sure.

There are times when Schmeichel’s words about the fans are a bit harsh, but he has played in some of the biggest games with the best crowds, so he does know the difference between a good crowd and a bad one. It’s not a surprise that he has criticized City since his son, Kasper, played at a crazy-loud Celtic Park game between Celtic and Slovan Bratislava.
