For the first time in four attempts, Manchester City secured the Community Shield by defeating Manchester United on penalties.

The Blues were unable to capitalize on their possession, as Erling Haaland was short on supply throughout the game, despite James McAtee hitting the post in the first half. Alejandro Garnacho scored for United in the final minutes, but Oscar Bobb later assisted substitute Bernardo Silva in heading in an equalizer.
