The player ratings of Manchester City from the Community Shield match against Manchester United are as follows:
For the first time in four attempts, Manchester City secured the Community Shield by defeating Manchester United on penalties.
The Blues were unable to capitalize on their possession, as Erling Haaland was short on supply throughout the game, despite James McAtee hitting the post in the first half. Alejandro Garnacho scored for United in the final minutes, but Oscar Bobb later assisted substitute Bernardo Silva in heading in an equalizer. Manu Akanji then converted the winning penalty, securing a 7-6 victory for City in the shoot-out.
In the second half, Savinho made his debut for City, and Bernardo Silva and Matheus Nunes were also introduced as City prepared to defend their Premier League title. The following is a breakdown of the players’ ratings.
Ederson: He dropped a dolly that he managed to avoid, and he subsequently managed to dissuade Rashford enough in the second half. Six
Lewis: For the first time in years, he was able to roam freely, charging forward into the No.8 spaces and pressing on into the box whenever he could. 7
Akanji: Solid enough, with his presence and game intelligence also allowing Lewis to get forward. Converted winning penalty 6
Dias: Guardiola was enraged by a few sloppy passes in the first half and will likely believe that he could have done better for the goal. Five
Gvardiol: Five
Kovacic: . 7
O’Reilly: Six
McAtee: . 7
Bobb: . 8
Doku: . Six
Haaland: Six
Andre Onana

Diogo Dalot
Rinsed by Jeremy Doku in the first half. He began the second half with a more composed demeanor and transitioned to left back after Harry Maguire was substituted. Converted his penalty. Six
Harry Maguire
Despite missing the friendly match with Liverpool last week, he managed to cope well with City’s periods of duress and was unharmed. Six
Jonny Evans
In the initial 20 minutes, he did not appear as at ease as he did during his debut against City earlier this year; however, he regained his composure. The penalty is atrocious. Five
Lisandro Martinez
He received his first start at left back for United, and he was excused from responsibility when James McAtee struck the post. Returning to the center back position following Maguire’s substitution, he made a few interventions. Six
Casemiro
He was more effective as an attacking midfielder than as a defensive midfielder, as he created opportunities for Marcus Rashford and Amadella. 7
Kobbie Mainoo
On his first appearance for United since the FA Cup final, he gradually reintegrated into the squad. Adroitly executed an attack-initiating pass. Six
Amad
At times, he was disregarded by his teammates, and when he eventually received the ball, he had United’s initial opportunity. He ought to have capitalized on his subsequent opportunity. Six
Mason Mount
On his ninth appearance for the United team, he made a subdued start but eventually became more involved in the game. Failed to sustain that level in the second half and was substituted. Five
