Possible Celtic managerial target spotted at St Mirren clash in major hint over next appointment

Celtic Given Major Managerial Hint as Martin O’Neill Spotted at St Mirren Match

Celtic supporters may have been handed a significant clue in the club’s ongoing managerial search after Martin O’Neillwas seen attending St Mirren’s Scottish Premiership clash with Hibernian on Saturday.

The Irishman was in the stands in Paisley just 24 hours before taking charge of Celtic’s must-win fixture against Kilmarnock, suggesting he may already be preparing for upcoming fixtures. The Scottish champions are due to face St Mirren again on December 14 in the Premier Sports Cup Final, and it remains uncertain whether a permanent manager will be appointed by then.

During St Mirren’s 2–1 defeat to Hibs, O’Neill and assistant Mark Fotheringham were both spotted watching the game, a move that hints at early planning for when Celtic visit the SMISA Stadium on Saturday, November 22, following the international break. Their presence adds to speculation that the pair will continue to oversee first-team duties in the short term.

Despite this, communication from the club about the managerial situation has been minimal, fuelling fan frustration. O’Neill, who stepped in as interim manager after Brendan Rodgers’ resignation, has made clear that his appointment is temporary.

Meanwhile, Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna and Bodø/Glimt’s Kjetil Knutsen remain strongly linked with the permanent role. Both are currently in employment, but Knutsen’s availability could improve as the Norwegian season concludes in late November—although his side still face three Champions League fixtures stretching into January.
