Arsenal’s Premier League campaign commences on Saturday with a match against Wolves, with Mikel Arteta’s team aiming to establish an immediate presence in the title competition.

The Gunners have a comparatively clean record, having concluded their preseason campaign with dominant victories over Bayer Leverkusen and Lyon.

Jurrien Timber’s absence from both of those games has reignited concerns regarding his health, as he was absent for nearly the entirety of his inaugural season with the club.

The Netherlands international sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury during the 2023-24 campaign against Nottingham Forest on the first day. He was able to return to the field on the final day against Everton in May.

Although Timber was unable to participate in the final pre-season contests due to a foot issue, it was anticipated that he would resume training this week.

Arteta disclosed last weekend that the versatile defender is a number of weeks away from his return, as Takehiro Tomiyasu was unable to participate in the pre-season tour of the United States due to a knee injury.

Riccardo Calafiori, Arsenal’s summer acquisition, made his debut against Lyon by playing the final 25 minutes. Arsenal supporters were granted their initial view of the Italian international.

On Saturday, Calafiori will be eager to make his competitive debut after playing his first minutes in the 2-0 victory over Lyon.

However, Arteta may choose to deploy Oleksandr Zinchenko at left-back, as the Ukrainian was included in an established backline alongside Ben White, William Saliba, and Gabriel Magalhaes in their final pre-season games.

The remainder of Arsenal’s starting lineup will be similar to the one that nearly defeated City last season, with Kai Havertz serving as Arteta’s preferred striker throughout the season. Calafiori is the sole newcomer.

Predicted Arsenal starting XI vs Wolves

Raya, White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko, Odegaard, Partey, Rice, Saka, Havertz, Martinelli
