Dundee United vs Rangers: Preview, Team News & Lineups

Dundee United will be looking to end a four-game winless streak when they host Rangers at Tannadice Park in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday.

The Tangerines currently sit eighth in the table with 15 points from 13 league games, while Rangers are fourth with 22 points from the same number of fixtures.

Match Context

Dundee United enjoyed a strong return to the Premiership last season, finishing fourth with 53 points from 38 games. However, Jim Goodwin’s side have struggled to replicate that form this term. After 13 league matches, they have recorded just three wins, six draws, and four defeats.

Their season began promisingly in Europe, with a win over UNA Strassen in the Conference League third qualifying round, but they were eliminated in the playoff round. Domestically, they also exited the Scottish League Cup and failed to win either of their first two league games. A brief run of two wins and a draw raised hopes, but the team has since claimed only one victory in their last eight league fixtures.

Goodwin will be eager to secure a first win over Rangers since August 2021 and keep his side within reach of the top six.

Rangers Form & Team News

Rangers have also seen managerial change this season. Russell Martin, who began the campaign at Ibrox, was dismissed after a disappointing record that included early European exits and inconsistent league form. Danny Rohl replaced him in late October, and while his tenure has been mixed, his Premiership record is strong: four wins and one draw from five league games.

The Gers are unbeaten in their last four matches across all competitions, including their first Europa League point with a 1-1 draw against Braga. Their impressive away form continues this season, with three wins and three draws on the road in the league.

Rangers will face injury concerns, missing Bailey Rice, Derek Cornelius, John Souttar, Kieran Dowell, Mikey Moore, and Rabbi Matondo. With both starting centre-backs out, Nasser Djiga and Emmanuel Fernandez are expected to start in defence, flanked by James Tavernier and Max Aarons at full-back. In attack, Danilo may replace Bojan Miovski after a subdued performance in the 0-0 draw against Falkirk.

Injury News & Key Players

Dundee United will be without Isaac Pappoe until later this month, but he is their only major absentee. Craig Sibbald, who scored three goals in five games, is expected to feature in midfield alongside Luca Stephenson and Panutche Camara.
