Rangers and Celtic have both been referred to as a stepping stone destination for larger and better clubs in Europe, as they have both recently signed key players. The Scottish Premiership does not qualify as an
elite European division, despite the fact that the Light Blues and Hoops are global brands. The English Premier League, Spain’s La Liga, and Italy’s Serie A are the only leagues that compete in that capacity. However, this does not preclude clubs from packing a punch. Rangers’ advancement to the Europa division’s last eight and Celtic’s exit from the
Champions League’s division phase are indicative of the abundance of talent on both sides of the Old Firm. According to pundit Tam McManus, athletes at both clubs regard them as a means of accessing the elite frontier.
