Rangers have plenty of plates spinning as they look to reinforce the squad ahead of what promises to be a huge Premiership title run-in.
Danny Rohl vowed the Light Blues would be proactive in the January transfer window, and the early signs suggest those words were not empty. Activity at Ibrox has been swift and decisive, with the club determined to make up for a disastrous summer recruitment drive under the new ownership led by Andrew Cavenagh.
Rohl has already dragged Rangers back into the title picture, extending their winning run with a statement victory over Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Sunday. January was always earmarked as a defining month, not just on the pitch but behind the scenes too, with a significant off-field appointment also edging closer.
Andreas Skov Olsen
This is the name that has really ignited supporter excitement. The 26-year-old winger has been linked with Rangers before, but fans believe this time could be different after he was spotted liking a social media post announcing fellow Dane and former FC Nordsjælland teammate Tochi Chukwuani’s move to Ibrox.
Skov Olsen has commanded major transfer fees throughout his career, with combined moves totalling over £20m, including a £12m switch to Wolfsburg last year. However, his time in Germany has stalled, with just 23 appearances and three goals. Omitted entirely as Wolfsburg were thrashed 8-1 by Bayern Munich, the winger is understood to be open to a loan move despite being under contract until 2029, and a temporary switch to Glasgow is thought to appeal.
Tuur Rommens and Parfait Guiagon
Guiagon’s situation remains complicated. The Charleroi midfielder has a year left on his deal, though the Belgian club hold an option to extend. They are reluctant to sell this month unless a substantial bid arrives, with the player valued at around £3.5m. Former Rangers boss Philippe Clement is also believed to be keen, with Norwich City monitoring the situation closely.
Dan Neil
Rangers are also eyeing Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil as cover for the injured Connor Barron, who is expected to miss up to three months. The 24-year-old has made only four appearances this season and was noted by Black Cats supporters to be detached during FA Cup celebrations at the weekend, fuelling talk of an imminent loan move north.
Romaine Mundle
Another Sunderland player on Rangers’ radar, Mundle offers versatility, being right-footed but comfortable on either flank. His future could depend on how the Skov Olsen pursuit develops, while reports persist that Djeidi Gassama could be on his way out, with Villarreal and Club Brugge both credited with interest.
Jim Gillespie
Not a signing on the pitch, but a major appointment nonetheless. St Mirren vice-chairman Jim Gillespie is set to be confirmed as Rangers’ new chief executive, a role he previously turned down.
A lifelong Rangers supporter, Gillespie will leave his position at the Buddies and his role as CEO of Renfrewshire charity Kibble to take up the post at Ibrox.
With momentum building both on and off the field, Rangers look intent on making January count in their bid to stay firmly in the title race.
