Rangers handed timely boost as transfer twist could help power Rohl’s title push

Rangers have been busy in the transfer market as they push to land the Scottish Premiership title this season.

Danny Rohl’s squad was strengthened early in January with the arrival of Tochi Chukwuani from Sturm Graz, giving the midfield more depth and control. The Ibrox side followed that up by bringing in Andreas Skov Olsen on loan from Wolfsburg, while Tuur Rommens also made the move from Westerlo to add further options.

Rangers catch a break in Ryan Naderi pursuit

The biggest late move, however, was the capture of striker Ryan Naderi from Hansa Rostock on deadline day. Rangers were determined to land the 22-year-old, and negotiations with the German club were long and difficult. For Naderi and his representatives, the process was anything but straightforward.

Details of the dramatic transfer have now emerged ahead of Rangers’ Scottish Cup clash with Queen’s Park. Speaking to Ostsee Zeitung, Naderi’s agent Laurent Burkart revealed the deal nearly collapsed. He had told the striker to switch off his phone on Sunday night because the transfer looked dead.

But in a twist of fate, Naderi woke up at 3:30am and checked his phone, spotting a missed call from his agent — the call that reignited talks and ultimately led to the move being completed before the deadline.

“Fortunately, Ryan answered. I was surprised because I had told him to turn his phone off and be ready from 6am,” Burkart explained.

With Youssouf Chermiti struggling for consistency for much of the campaign, Rangers’ need for a reliable attacking option made the Naderi deal even more significant.

Big opportunity in the cup

Naderi wasn’t fully match-ready to start against Kilmarnock, but Sunday’s Scottish Cup tie presents the perfect opportunity to make his mark. Rangers go into the game as clear favourites, facing a Queen’s Park side currently bottom of Scotland’s second tier, meaning there is a noticeable gap in quality.

The fixture offers the German forward an ideal platform to adapt to Scottish football and build chemistry with his new teammates. A strong performance — especially a goal — would give him a major confidence boost and excite the Rangers support.

If Rangers are to go all the way in the title race, their new striker finding form quickly could make all the difference.
