Rangers could be in line for a notable financial boost if a former academy talent completes a move to Germany before the transfer window closes.
With late-window deals expected across Europe, developments involving ex-Ibrox youngster Rory Wilson may be of particular interest to the Glasgow club. Fabrizio Romano has reported that Bundesliga side TSG Hoffenheim have made an enquiry about signing the Scotland youth international from Aston Villa.
According to the Italian transfer specialist, Hoffenheim are exploring a loan deal with an option to buy set at €7 million. Converted, that figure sits at just over £6 million, which would represent a sizeable return for Villa if the clause is triggered.
However, Rangers are also watching closely. When Wilson left Ibrox for Villa in 2021, the initial fee was around £350,000, with add-ons potentially taking the package to £1 million. Those performance-related bonuses would depend on first-team milestones — something that may not materialise if he departs Villa Park without breaking into the senior side.
Instead, Rangers could benefit via a sell-on clause, reportedly worth 10 percent of any future transfer fee. Should Hoffenheim activate the option, that would hand Rangers roughly £600,000.
That sum, combined with the original payment received, would take the overall return for the striker to around £950,000— only marginally short of the maximum they could have earned through the add-on structure in his original exit deal.
Sky Sports have also indicated Wilson is attracting interest from other clubs in England and Scandinavia, suggesting Hoffenheim may not be the only potential destination as the deadline approaches.
For Rangers, it could prove to be a timely off-field boost without needing to sanction a sale of their own.
